CLEMSON, S.C. – Director of Track & Field, Mark Elliott has announced the addition of Tevin Hester as he will serve as the new Assistant Coach for Short Sprints. A previous volunteer coach for the Tigers and a four-year sprinter at Clemson, Hester returns after coaching for three seasons at the University of Pittsburgh. “Clemson Track and Field welcome’s home Coach Tevin Hester. The Clemson track and field program scored its first point of the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and advanced eight athletes onto their respective finals during Thursday’s action at the Paul Derr Track Facility on the campus of NC State. Clemson will resume action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. as the final day of competition in the women’s heptathlon gets underway. Ethan Cocco got the Tigers on the scoreboard by placing eighth in the men’s javelin throw to open the championships on Thursday morning. The freshman from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., threw a personal best of 63.18 meters (207 feet, 3 inches) in the second round to become No. 7 all-time at Clemson. Cocco entered the meet occupying the No. 8 position with his previous best of 61.61m set during the Tennessee Challenge earlier in May. Barton Breaks Record, Six Tigers Earn All-American Status Saturday FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Laurie Barton, Terryon Conwell and Trishauna Hemmings each garnered first-team All-American honors at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Barton finished 2nd in the women’s 800 meters after running 2:01.21, Conwell placed 7th in the men’s 200 meters after sprinting to a final time of 21.09, and Hemmings finished 8th in the women’s 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 8.16. A world-class effort by Barton in the 800m saw her set a new school record following her effort Saturday night. Natoya Goule previously held the record after running 2:01.64 to win the 2015 indoor national title for the event. On Saturday, Barton had splits of 28.65-29.91-30.93-31.74 to finish as runner-up. Meet Central CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track and field program will be represented by six individuals at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, set to run from Thursday, March 11, through Saturday, March 13. Clemson will have all six of its athletes open their competition on Friday, March 12. The University of Arkansas will host the meet at its Randal Tyson Track Center for the twelfth time in history and the first time since 2015.
