Immigration advocates on Monday will rally at Moffett Field in Mountain View, a former Navy base where federal authorities are considering temporarily housing unaccompanied children who recently crossed the southwest border.
Officials with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services the umbrella agency that oversees government-funded shelters for unaccompanied children are assessing vacant property at Moffett to see if its facilities could be used as temporary shelters amid an influx of children and families crossing the border, NASA officials told The Chronicle last week. The Bay Area may have been spoiled with several days of summer-like weather recently, but rain showers and chilly temperatures will make a comeback across the region this week, according to the National Weather Service.
The first chances of rainfall will creep in Monday morning, said Weather Service meteorologist Brayden Murdock.
“Then it starts becoming a bit more widespread as we head towards the evening,” he said. “Monday night going into Tuesday is probably going to be very consistent rain and some of our highest chances for the week.” ....
