Bring on the buskers: La Jolla merchants group looks to bring street musicians to The Village

Print Live music is allowed to return to The Village’s indoor venues with relaxed coronavirus restrictions in San Diego County, but it might also be returning to the streets. The La Jolla Village Merchants Association is looking to match musicians with retailers that want them in front of their stores. LJVMA previously brought musicians to The Village through its Enjoya La Jolla community outings, featuring entertainment, shopping deals and demos, refreshments, prizes, contests and more. Though Enjoya La Jolla is not back in its full capacity, LJVMA Executive Director Jodi Rudick said the outdoor musical element could return. She said the board spent $1,500 to $2,000 a month on music for Enjoya La Jolla.

La Jolla News Nuggets: Mural walking tours, Jewish student center, $40,000 scholarship, more

The walking tours begin at the Athenaeum and weave through The Village, covering roughly half the murals currently on view, including the five installed in 2020 and 2021. “Each mural has its own story,” Forsha said. “We talk about the artists’ concepts, what the inspiration might have been.” The tours are free and will be limited at first to 20 of the usual 40-person capacity, with masks required. “I’ve really missed giving the tours,” Forsha said. “I love spending time with people who are just curious. I find that the people who sign up for the tours are always interested in knowing more about the project.”

Inaugural Take-Out Taste of The Village to spotlight 16 La Jolla restaurants March 22-25

Themes and menus for the inaugural Take-Out Taste of The Village are coming together as 16 restaurants prepare to make multicourse dinners showcasing what The Jewel’s restaurateurs have to offer. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. March 22-25, with four restaurants participating each night. Tickets are $85 for a four-course dinner for two, with one course each provided by each night’s participating restaurants. Twenty percent of ticket sales (plus any gratuities) goes to the restaurants and the rest goes to the La Jolla Village Merchants Association. “We are super excited,” LJVMA Vice President Morgan Barnes said of the event, adding that it “will reconnect our community and bring a sense of interactive fun back to The Village.”
