parade today. we begin our independence day coverage with kpix 5 s anne makovec who had a front row seat. looks like fun. reporter: yeah. the parade here in alameda started at 10:00 and it just passed us here on park street but it s still going on, on other city streets right now in alameda. it s going to be going on for the next couple of hours. this is the 38th annual parade and it keeps getting big ever every year. it is 3.2 miles of pure hometown pride. so we are, we believe, the longest in terms of length parade in the united states. the only thing we think beats us is the rose bowl. reporter: an estimated 22,000 spectators began lining up early this morning along the streets of alameda. we started with waffles for breakfast, set up for the parade route at 6:00. reporter: this family brought three generations. what s your favorite thing? candy. reporter: but that s not it. free popcorn. and i get to see my grandfather. reporter: and as with every ....

up to another 3 inches of flood-producing rain is possible. the storm made its way through the southeast yesterday. there were flash floods in north carolina, stranding motorists and flooding homes. by the time the severe weather reached massachusetts, the powerful wind was taking down trees and power lines. some smashed into homes. others blocked roads. it was a violent storm, i knew that. i looked out my side window and i saw my maple tree, which is huge, going in all different directions. at that point my wife and i went down in the cellar because we didn t know what was going to happen. there was also extensive damage in new jersey and flooding in new york. meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz is tracking the weather system. we ve been tracking stormy weather the last few days and the cool air coming down from canada, you can see it on the satellite/radar picture because it clears everything on. not much going on. mainly for today we re watching ....
