New Delhi: Ahead of the sixth phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission on Sunday (April 18) banned BJP leader Saiyan Basu and Trinamool Congress leader Sujata Khan for 24 hours for their recent speeches. According to reports, the campaign for the BJP and Trinamool Congress leaders will be implemented from 7 pm on Sunday.
According to an ANI report, the poll panel banned BJP leader Sayantan Basu for 24 hours from campaigning with his remark ‘highly inflammatory comment’ on the recent shootings in Cooch Behar, killing five people. The poll panel issued a notice to Sayantan Basu for his alleged ‘inflammatory’ remarks during a speech on 15 April and asked him to clarify his stand within 24 hours. The notice stated that the poll panel had received a complaint against Basu for his speech in Baranagar, North 24 Parganas.
