Criminal Trial Association and we are devastated by the attacks on our Asian Community and we stand in solidarity with supervisor mar and the appi advocates and victims of this violence. In looking ways to protect our asianamerican brothers and sisters, rather than a broken system, we must invest in communitybased solutions. We have relied too long on police and prosecution and prisons to protect us from racialized violence. These institutions are systematically bias, disproportionate and dehumanizing. These institutions have failed in the last 170 years to remedy the root causes of violence in our community. We need to increase police presence, to have bureaucracy or to push for more incarceration. We call to invest in our community and to prioritize support for Mental Health and treatment and Restorative Justice and responses to racialized violence. To bring all people together, including our black, indigenous, communities to promote unity. We cannot charge and punish our way out of

Transcripts For CSPAN Attorney General Garland DHS Secretary Mayorkas Testify On Domestic... 20240710

Good morning, everybody. I appreciate being here, all of you. I was just this is a somewhat unusual way to meet. And i would mention this to our two distinguished witnesses. Its a little bit more difficult to keep the distances we want. But i think its important for the Appropriations Committee to have this meeting. And the january 6th images of all of us remember that, flying confederate flags as they stormed the u. S. Capitol are stark reminders that domestic violent extremism is highly under threat. Our nations history has been mired by the violent, deadly acts of extremists pushing a range of hateful white supremacist ideologies. From the ku klux klan to Timothy Mcveigh, weve witnessed and weve suffered through as a people extremists killing innocent people in the name of usually morally, always morally bankrupt causes. The violence on january 6th was simply the latest chapter in this long history of domestic extremism in america. Plots by domestic extremists are at historic highs.
