Tell me about this project and how it got started . Annette my editor has wanted me to do a book about texas for a long time. We were thinking about doing a big book, and im still thinking of doing a book about the history of texas and slavery. We talked about the idea of doing that using my family as a template. To move forward with this history. We decided after that i did an essay for the New Yorker about the holiday juneteenth. After i had done a five have been Book Review of books about texas for the new Yorker Review of books that we might do something smaller. Try a different path instead of a conventional large history.
