At least four candidates in fray in the third phase of assembly elections have murder charges against them, according to data analysed by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). In total, 86 candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them. Among the candidates analysed, 26 have attempt to murder charges, while 28 have cases of crime against women, including two rape cases. Additionally, 19 of the 42 assembly seats are 'red alert' constituencies with three or more candidates with declared criminal cases, as per ADR and Odisha Election Watch (OEW) data.

Despite this, some candidates have very low assets, such as Kailash Chandra Nayak with Rs 1,000, Sukanta Ghadai with Rs 2,000, and Gopinath Nayak with Rs 2,000. Additionally, 100 candidates have declared criminal cases against them, with 86 facing serious charges.
