At least four candidates in fray in the third phase of assembly elections have murder charges against them, according to data analysed by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). In total, 86 candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them. Among the candidates analysed, 26 have attempt to murder charges, while 28 have cases of crime against women, including two rape cases. Additionally, 19 of the 42 assembly seats are 'red alert' constituencies with three or more candidates with declared criminal cases, as per ADR and Odisha Election Watch (OEW) data.
A man was arrested for allegedly circulating a morphed image of Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh, the queen of Nayagarh royal family and BJP’s candidate from Nayagarh assembly seat, on social media. The accused was identified as Ramakanta Panda (28), alias Jitu, a resident of Itamati in Nayagarh district.
