SIDNEY Downtown Sidney will once again be “the place to be” on Saturday mornings with the annual debut of The Great Sidney Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Visitors of the weekly market will find a myriad of fresh fruit and vegetables from local farmers, homemade crafts and original art among the multitude of stands. Homemade jams and jellies are always a big hit as well as the abundance of available flowers and plants. Shoppers will also find homemade wax melts, crocheted items, soaps, silk flower arrangements, woven rugs. But the Farmer’s Market is more than just a place to shop, it is also a social spot to engage with others. ....

Council hears committee’s NTVs recommendation

SIDNEY The issue of non-traditional vehicles (NTVs) on Sidney roadways was discussed during Sidney City Council’s virtual workshop session Monday.
Randy Rose, chairman of the Non-Traditional Vehicle Use Ad Hoc Committee, presented the committee’s recommendation on the use of NTVs on city streets.
Currently, low speed, non-traditional vehicles are not permitted to operate on Sidney city streets. Violators will be cited by Sidney Police as of May 1, which was when the warning period ended.
The Ad Hoc Committee reviewed and reworked tabled ordinance A-3020 that Police Chief Will Balling first presented to City Council in July 2020. ....

A different kind of egg hunt
Riley Geise, 3, of Fort Loramie, finds a numbered Easter egg in the window of a shop in downtown Sidney on Wednesday, March 31. Riley was searching for the numbered eggs in the windows of downtown businesses with her brother, Connor Geise, 5, and their mother, Megan Geise. The eggs were part of the Downtown Sidney Easter Egg Hunt put on by Sidney Alive. Participants write down on a list the name of the store they found the numbered egg at. When all the eggs are found they turn the list into Sidney Alive to be part of a drawing to win a prize basket. Riley and Connor are also the children of Jason Geise. ....

Council considers downtown parking
SIDNEY Downtown parking was discussed during the Monday evening hybrid-style Sidney City Council teleconference meeting.
City Manager Mark Cundiff led discussions on extending the downtown parking amnesty program and parking in the downtown in general.
Cundiff recently brought the issue of considering extending the parking amnesty program to council on Feb. 8, but after members expressed concern about the non-enforcement of overnight parking restrictions and several other questions about downtown parking, he sought to review downtown parking and come back with recommendations. City staff’s recommendation Monday and on Feb. 8 is to extend the program until Jan. 1, 2022. ....
