Council hears downtown development strategies
SIDNEY Downtown development strategies were discussed during the Sidney City Council’s Monday evening hybrid-style teleconference meeting.
Amy Breinich, Sidney Alive executive director, Jim Hill, executive director of the Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership (SSEP), along with Barry Alberts, of CityVisions Associates, provided a presentation on downtown development strategies. Alberts has been working with SSEP and Sidney Alive to help strategize the vision for downtown. CityVisions, of Louisville, Kentucky, is a downtown developer/consultant that has previous worked on the riverfront development strategy in Piqua, Dayton and Springfield.
Hill and Breinich gave an quick review for council members of goals and previous steps. Alberts then shared information on phase I plans for the downtown Sidney development strategic actions community partners are working on. ....

Council considers rezoning request

SIDNEY Several ordinances were considered and a public hearing was held on a rezoning request at the Monday evening Sidney City Council teleconference meeting.
An ordinance amending a section of the codified ordinances pertaining to the city investment and deposit policy was first heard and adopted Monday. This investment and deposit policy outlines city objectives and what and who the city of Sidney may invest in and purchase investments from. Renee DuLaney, assistant finance officer, explained the policy is periodically reviewed and amended over the years to reflect current Ohio Revised Code requirements or Government Finance Officer Association recommendations. ....

SIDNEY Two founding members of the Sidney Alive Board of Trustees will continue to lead the community after finishing their terms with the board. Two new members have joined the board in 2021.
“Mary Beth Monnier and Sandi Shipman will depart the Sidney Alive Board of Trustees at the end of 2020. They both have been vital members of our board and committees. We hope they know just how valued they are in our community,” said Amy Breinich, executive director of Sidney Alive.
Monnier, owner of Creative Marketing Strategies in downtown Sidney, has served as the Marketing Committee chair as well as secretary for the Sidney Alive organization. Monnier has also served with the Shelby County United Way and many other organizations in the community. ....

Community Foundation distributes $467,000
SIDNEY More than $467,000 was distributed to 18 participating charities Friday from proceeds of Match Day, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Shelby County. The amount exceeded the 2019 total by $90,000.
Match Day was held on December 1 and, after processing nearly 1,400 gifts, results were announced to each organization on Friday.
The event celebrated the local foundation’s fundraising campaign on Giving Tuesday by giving away $90,000 in matching money. Matches of up to $5,000 were offered to 501(c)(3) charities that had an organization fund within the Community Foundation. The awards were not placed into the fund at the Community Foundation, but instead were given to the charities to be put to work on their projects and needs. ....

Council hears city meeting agenda items

SIDNEY Sidney City Council continued its Monday evening teleconference meeting with information about agenda items for upcoming city meetings and announcements.
The meeting was held with board members in attendance in council chambers and others welcome to join virtually. In honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, at the top of the meeting, Mayor Mike Barhorst asked council members to keep those veterans in their thoughts.
Barbara Dulworth, community development director, said there will be no December Zoning Board of Appeals meeting as nothing is on the agenda. She then reviewed the upcoming Planning Commission Agenda for Monday, Dec. 21, 2020. ....
