Fairfield Public School District 112 Meeting Recap for April

The Fairfield Public School District Unit 112 Board met Monday Evening at Center Street School. Looking at the treasurer's report, the Education Fund $3,778,901.91, Building Fund $766,059.91, Debt Services Fund $160,359.22, Transportation Fund $255,190.39, IMRF Fund $410,682.22, Capital Projects $ 16,352.46, Working Cash Fund $1,284,312.57, Tort Fund $432,301.94, Fire Prevention/Safety Fund $236,762.75 for a Total $7,340,923.37. Checking items the board took action on, A motion was made by member Shane Neuman to approve the Consolidated District Grant Application as presented. The motion was seconded by member Jason McCulley. The vote was 7-0 on the measure and approved. A motion was made by member Dan Coomer to approve the FY24 Food Service Contract as presented. The Wayne Chamber of Commerce along with Potts Family Pharmacy of Fairfield are excited to announce a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate their Grand Opening today at 12:00 PM. The Wayne County Sheriff's Department has released details on the June 13th arrest of 45-year-old Jack J. Myers. Deputies responded to a report of a man firing a handgun out the back door of a rural Fairfield residence, and Myers was questioned after police observed a possible weapon on his waistline. Police received consent to search his residence and found three firearms, suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and plastic baggies. Myers was taken to the Wayne County Jail on preliminary charges of armed violence, unlawful possession with intent to deliver meth, and unlawful possession of a firearm. 22-year-old Fairfield resident Alyssa M. Collins was booked in the Wayne County Jail yesterday. She was wanted on a Wayne County failure to appear warrant for possession of meth, and Collins was held in the jail, pending the posting of $345 bond. 35-year-old Farina resident John T. Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says there will be six contested races in the upcoming June primary election, all on the Republican side. She held a lottery yesterday morning to determine their placement on the ballot; in order, Crystal Ellis and Yvette Anderson have filed for Treasurer; Andy Glover and Randy Hedrick for District 2 on the County Board; Roy Estheimer, Eddie Barbre, and Brandon Bittles for District 3; Joshua Isle, Matt Shreve, and Jeremy Witter for District 5; Bill Bruce and Vern Hutson for District 6; and Gene Kollak, Steven Troyer, and Shane Neuman in District 7. Estheimer, Hutson, Kollak, and Neuman are incumbents. The primary election this year will be June 28th. Residents will be able to seek vote-by-mail ballots between March 30th and June 23rd, and in-person early voting will begin May 19th. The first installment of 2020 payable 2021 Edwards County Real Estate Taxes was due November 30th. The total extension was $6,276,962, and, as of Tuesday, 71 percent of that total had been paid, according to County Treasurer Debbie Smith. The second installment is due by December 30th, and payment may be made in person, by mail, or in the drop box on the northeast side of the courthouse. People can also pay online at govtechtaxpro.com, though a 2.5 percent fee will be added for the credit card company. Certified delinquent letters will be sent out January 5th, and people must pay delinquent taxes by January 13th to avoid publication in the newspaper on the 19th. The tax sale will be on February 9th. Illinois firearm deer hunting totals were down this year, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. Hunters took 71,675 deer over the two firearm weekends, compared to more than 77,000 last year. Wayne County totaled 1,414 deer in the two weekends compared to 1,446 in 2020. Ed
