On Feb. 26, a combined forum for candidates running in this up-coming Students’ Union election took place online via Zoom. This event was organized by the Students in Communications (SIC) club and was moderated by Shaziah Jinnah, who is the vice-president student affairs with SIC.
The two candidates for president, Rayane Issa and Nicole Schmidt, took part in the forum, each advocating for the return of in-person attendance of classes. They both agreed that student consultation will be necessary in order to ensure the process is student-centered but noted that it would depend on the timing and safety that was best for students returning. Talks of tuition increases in response to the Alberta Provincial Budget had Schmidt and Issa present two different approaches about how they would tackle fighting tuition increases.

Along with the responsibilities outlined for all SLC members, faculty representatives are accountable for responsibilities particular to their role including: Reporting to students of their faculty the policies, positions and programs of the SU, reporting to their faculty itself (e.g., Dean’s Council) the policies, positions and programs of the SU, representing student constituents of their faculty at SLC, representing student constituents of their faculty on university committees and reporting to the VP Academic on matters of academic importance within their faculty.
Cumming School of Medicine: Rafael Sanguinetti

Gauntlet interview, Rafael Sanguinetti still manages to convey a strong platform and relevant ideas to bring to undergraduates at the Cummings School of Medicine.
Leslie Reid, vice-provost teaching and learning, Brock Kahanyshyn, chief information officer and Sarah Eaton, associate professor at the Werklund School of Education and educational leader in residence specializing in academic integrity, presented their research on online proctoring to the Students’ Legislative Council on Dec. 1.
Reid officially confirmed that there will not be any online proctoring during exams for the upcoming semester. This conclusion was arrived at after extensive consultations with the Students’ Legislative Council (SLC) as well as staff and students. Research done by Eaton and several graduate students revealed that e-proctoring became “the number one mental health issue among students during COVID-19.”
