A dad of three has been jailed for three years after he bit of a man’s ear in a late-night attack. Andrew James Sword got into a scuffle with James Laws in the Havana nightclub on Botchergate in Carlisle on January 31, 2019. Outlining the prosecution case at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, Neil Bisarya said: “Mr Laws was in Havana bar on Botchergate and at around 3am he went to the toilet to use the facilities with his friend. The defendant entered the toilet and asked if they could sort out any beak. Mr Laws believed he meant cocaine. He told him no and he did not use drugs.” ....
Eden man who denies cocaine supply allegation to stand trial Carlisle Crown Court An Eden man who denies an alleged cocaine supply crime is due to stand trial in front of a jury in early 2021. Niall Dixon, 24, of Frankland Park, Orton, pleaded not guilty to one charge when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court for a short hearing this morning in front of a judge, Recorder Tom Gilbart. This charge alleges that Dixon was in possession of cocaine – a controlled drug of class A – with intent to supply it to another on October 21 last year. It arises out of a police stoppage in Appleby on the afternoon of that date. ....
Unfettered: The defendant was accessing the internet using an XBox with no police approved monitoring software POLICE discovered that a convicted sex offender from west Cumbria was secretly using the internet after he handed over his laptop to a local computer repair shop. Thomas Ferguson, 24, was banned from going online unless he used a device fitted with police approved monitoring software. A judge imposed the restriction after the defendant was convicted of appalling child sex offences, Carlisle Crown Court heard. Ferguson, of The Green, Whitehaven, admitted having the internet enabled Xbox in breach of a sexual harm prevention order. Brendan Burke, prosecuting, said police visited the defendant at his home address after concerns were raised following his visit to a computer repair shop. It was discovered he was using an Xbox. When challenged, he readily admitted using the internet enabled device to go online. ....
