live from the kgo tv broadcast center this is abc 7 news. a twist in a missing persons case. a mother and young daughter from san francisco have been found. but we re learning tonight the search may have had more to do with the investigation of a man well known for being beaten by alameda county sheriff s deputies. i m matt keller in for eric thomas. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington has been following the story all day. she just spoke with family members of the mom and daughter who are relieved they are safe tonight. i got off the phone with the mother of dana rinta. she wants to thank everyone who helped search for her daughter and granddaughter. dana rinta and her 1-year-old daughter scarlet were found safe and unharmed. they were reported missing yesterday, the same day fbi agents raided a home in san francisco s visitation valley. they arrested stanislaus petrov who is rinta s ex-boyfriend. you can see him handcuffed led out of the house by the fbi n put in the b
a typical way to spend the evening. saturday night, holiday weekend. and want to get a little culture. i want to feel moved, happy, upbeat. reporter: but just after midnight saturday, there was nothing happy or upbeat what happened on 92nd and broadway and it wasn t the sound of theater here. it was the sound of a man crying for help on the train station and the sight of police flooding the neighborhood searching for four men who attacked the 19-year-old. the victim was waiting for the cross town bus while looking at his cellphone when the four men approached him and asked him where he was from. they punched him and slashed his pockets. that victim ran into that subway station as those men chased him. it s a crowded part of the city even late at night, particularly during the weekend. perhaps why some find this attack a bit unusual. i wouldn t expect that, no. we ve been here the last times at that time. it s weird. it s weird. it makes me wonder what s going on.
broadcast center, this is abc news. police are trying to move protesters who shutdown highway 24 in oakland. and in berkeley, protesters stand up to vandals breaking into businesses. good evening. i m katie marzulo. we have live pictures from sky 7hd. the protesters right now on bancroft near dana and walking as you can see fairly straight forward at this hour. some of the quieter moments we have seen as the protest has made its way from berkeley to oakland and back of take a look at some dramatic video from earlier in the night. around 8:45 the protesters are ma of to highway 24 in oakland. they stopped traffic for nearly an hour. at one point, police say a protestor threw an explosive at officers. you can see that right there. officers are moving quickly take down a protestor and tried to subdue any trouble makers. no word on why the people you can see there are taken into custody. the freeway was back open within an hour. other protesters under the freeway tried to set a
