BAME Staff Network Host Safe Spaces For Race Discussions
Designated safe space sessions have been launched for University staff and Postgraduate Research students to discuss issues regarding race.
These confidential safe spaces are hosted by the chair of the BAME staff network, Bhupinder Siran, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion manager Camilla Gibson, with the intention of providing safe listening spaces for discussions on race.
The sessions will run for 1 hour from 10 am-11 am on the following dates:
Monday 19 April 2021
Monday 19 July 2021
The sessions come on the back of a successful pilot during the summer and Semester 1. According to the description of the sessions, it is hoped that they will ‘help shape a plan for the university community at both an individual and organisational level to champion these most important causes’. ....

The University of Strathclyde , Glasgow offers a number of scholarships for applicants joining its undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes. All self-funded, international (non-EU) fee-paying offer holders with strong academic qualifications are encouraged to apply. Please note – you must hold an offer to a full-time degree programme starting in the 2021/22 academic year before your scholarship application will be considered.
If you’re applying for an undergraduate degree programme, you’ll receive a scholarship award equivalent to a 10% reduction of your tuition fees for each year of study. Your first year’s scholarship will typically be £2,185.
If you’re applying for a postgraduate taught degree programme, you’ll receive a scholarship award equivalent to a 15% reduction of your tuition fees, which will typically be £3,280. ....

Fully funded PhD studentships

The programme will see four students embark on individual PhD theses at the university.
Each PhD is fully funded by Leeds Trinity, and students will also receive a stipend to financially support them during the programme.
The students have been matched to expert research staff from across the University for the duration of the three-year programme. These staff have extensive professional experience as active researchers and leaders in their fields.
These include Professor Mark Russell, who is currently leading interdisciplinary research examining ways to enhance the performance of professional team sport players with a focus on substitutes and half-time protocols; Dr Martin Barwood who is leading research to reduce the incidence of death by drowning; Professor Jane de Gay, who is an expert in literary, cultural and intellectual heritage; and Dr Susan Elmer, who specialises in research in social work and social care. ....

Nominations for 2020-2021 Sabbatical Officers at the University of Southampton are now open. The available rolls include:
Union President, VP Education & Democracy, VP Welfare & Community, VP Activities, VP Sports, Trustee, Senator, Chair of Senate, Faculty Officer, and Postgraduate Research Officer.
A recent announcement from SUSU affirms that:
These roles are paid £21,814 per annum to represent students full-time for the year. All our Sabbatical Officers receive training in key skills such as project management, communication, leadership, governance and more. Each Sabbatical is supported by full-time staff at SUSU.
This announcement also observes that there is a difference between a paid role as a Sabbatical Officer and a voluntary position. The roles of Union President, VP Education & Democracy, VP Welfare & Community, VP Activities, VP Sports are all paid, full-time positions. By contrast, ....
