Alumni of Manipal Institute of Technology, MIT created history by winning the prestigious position of Oxford Student Union President. Rashmi Samant won the elections and is all set to become the first Indian women to occupy the position of Student Union President.
Rashmi, a graduate student of MSc in energy system at Linacre College, Oxford University contested for the post with four main priorities- decolonization and inclusivity, COVID interventions for all, access to quality mental health resources, and decarbonizing the university. Nominations Open For SUSU Leadership Elections
Nominations are open for the annual SUSU Leadership Elections, which notably include the Sabbatical Officer roles alongside other part-time volunteering roles. Nominations for all roles close on Wednesday 10 February at 16:00.
The Sabbatical Officer roles are the highest positions available for nomination and individuals in these roles are regarded as the main liaison between student communities and the University. These roles are:

A recent announcement from SUSU affirms that:
These roles are paid £21,814 per annum to represent students full-time for the year. All our Sabbatical Officers receive training in key skills such as project management, communication, leadership, governance and more. Each Sabbatical is supported by full-time staff at SUSU.
This announcement also observes that there is a difference between a paid role as a Sabbatical Officer and a voluntary position. The roles of Union President, VP Education & Democracy, VP Welfare & Community, VP Activities, VP Sports are all paid, full-time positions. By contrast, roles such as Trus
