Plastics Can Be Broken Down in to Fuel, And We Just Found a Great Method For It

Plastics Can Be Broken Down in to Fuel, And We Just Found a Great Method For It
23 APRIL 2021
If you didn t know already, we have bad news - the plastic recycling industry is severely under-performing. Only 9 percent of plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. Around 12 percent has been burnt, leaving 79 percent of all plastic ever produced still out there in the world.

While we work out how to be less reliant on these materials, researchers have also been investigating how to reuse one of the most common types of plastic – polyolefin – by turning it into fuel.
Single-use plastics impose an enormous environmental threat, but their recycling, especially of polyolefins, has been proven challenging, researchers from the University of Delaware (UD) write in a new paper. ....

HDPE resin grade a 'paradigm shift', claims ExxonMobil

February 17, 2021
ExxonMobil is promising a “paradigm shift” in the properties normally associated with unimodal HDPE resins, with the launch of a new grade of Paxon HDPE.
Offering a step-change in environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) performance, or processability, Paxon SP5504 is suitable for household and industrial chemical bottles and containers for products like bleach, wipes, and agricultural chemicals. In addition, post-consumer resin can be increased due to the better property balance of the virgin resin.
“Until now, converters have often had to compromise to get the right ESCR performance of blow moulded HDPE bottles and containers,” said Dr James Stern, HDPE business development manager for North America & EMEAF at ExxonMobil. “But, because there is no compromise in density or melt index, Paxon SP5504 enables converters to create cost-effective packaging solutions for household and industrial chemicals.” ....
