Gordon Reaches Final Four of North-South Amateur
CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson rising senior Zack Gordon reached the final four of the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst #2 in Pinehurst, N.C. on Saturday morning with a victory over Joe Highsmith from NCAA Champion Pepperdine, then dropped a semifinal match in the afternoon to Australia Amateur Champion Louis Dobbelaar.
The two matches concluded quite a week for Gordon, who jumped on the national college golf scene in April when he made a 20-foot putt in his match against Florida State to give the Tigers the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. Reaching the Final Four of the North-South Amateur will only enhance his resume.
Gordon Reaches Quarterfinals of North-South Amateur
CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson rising senior Zack Gordon defeated Ben Carr of Georgia Southern 2&1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst #2 in Pinehurst, NC in an 11-hour match on Friday. Gordon will face Joe Highsmith, an All-American for National Champion Pepperdine, on Saturday morning.
All eight Sweet 16 matches were halted significantly by two rain delays. Gordon and Carr, started at 7:48 a.m. before the golfers were taken off the court due to inclement weather after just two holes. The golfers tied the first two holes.
They returned to the course at 2 p.m. and again got just two holes in before storms took them off the course a second time. Carr had just won the fourth hole to take a 1-up lead.
