southern california tonight. the storm officially made landfall four hours to go over mexico baja peninsula. it s expected to move up through southern california and into the data over the next 24 hours spread fox weather meteorologist adam klotz is looking how much rate and where it is awkward default. lots of rain we are really kind of in the heart of it as we speak right on the big bands of showers continuing to push their way into southern california. everevery one of these little gn boxes is a plush flood warning that s currently in place. they have been in place here for a little while. this one in los angeles county really running into the northern part of the county pretty get a little bit more of elevation in the hills very heavy rain will be racing doubt into the city but you ll see some of these warnings pop up in portions of san diego county as well. very heavy rain it s going to go on for hours and hours and hours. this the first initial heavy round of showers
hello, everyone. thank you so much for joining me. i m fredericka witfield. the southwestern u.s. is bracing for potentially catastrophic flooding as hurricane hilary churns off the pacific. we just learned moments ago that the storm has weakened just a bit to a category 3 storm with 125 mile an hour winds. it s lashing mexico with strong winds and high waves right now. forecasters warn it could dump more than a year s worth of rain across parts of california, nevada and arizona. the storm is expected to weaken as it moves north, but the threat is so severe, a tropical storm watch has been issued for california, the first ever for that state. people there are trying to prepare as best they can. cnn meteorologist allison chinchar is joining us. a new advisory has just been issued. while it may have been downgraded a little bit, that s still very threatening. right. keep in mind the weakening was forecast. we knew as it slid into cooler waters, this was going to happen. in te
monday. john roberts, great to be back after a few days not being able to talk. gillian: and glad to be back with you on the new set, it s awesome. this is america reports, the desperate search for survivors is continuing across maui. john: recovery teams with cadaver dogs going building to building with the 1,000 that remain unaccounted for. gillian: survivors reporting warning sirens never went off and crews say hydrants had no water pressure. no idea what was going on, no siren, nothing. my son was like oh, mom, is this it? what do you tell your kids? right now the government is letting us down, so it s really important that all the people of maui stick together, come together and support one another at this crazy time. some of my friends are saying you know who is missing, so and so, so and so, so and so, and that s when it clicks in my head a bit. we will build back together, find out what we could have done to prevent such loss of life. john: max gordo
wildfire updates. what can you tell us now in. reporter: hey there, griff, good morning to you. we re alongside one of the main entry points into the town of a lahaina. people here have been lined up for hours, some of these folks sleeping in their cars waiting for the curfew in the town of lahaina to expire. some of these people have nothing left, they just want to get in, see what s left of the town. take a listen to some folks about what they ve seen there. i want people to know that there are people out here suffering, and we need donations. we need, we need people shipping things out here. we need families fed, we need yeah, we need so much men help. reporter: home after home in lahaina, gone. one estimate from core logic puts the estimate of destroyed homes at more than 3,000. the rising death toll now at 80 people as rescue crews search for more victims. thousands of people have now left the island, and around 1400 are currently staying in emergency shelters
this hour a federal grand jury is meeting behind closed doors in washington. will they be handing up a criminal indictment against donald trump for fighting to stay in power after he lost the election? as a potential indictment looms, the former president quietly beefed up the legal team, and nshgscnn is trying to out what witnesses and counsel the former president has. and now, the eyewitnesses who saw the soldier run across the border, and now officials trying to figure out why he ran. this is cnn news central. right now, all eyes and at least one trump legal team is keeping watch on a federal courthouse in washington, and that is where the grand jury is decision they could make is handing up another criminal indictment against the former president, and this would be the third time he has been hit with indictments over the 2020 federal election results. and while it is the last day for trump to respond to the target letter, before that same jury, and though unlikely
