Now americas toughest sheriff faces charges of criminal intent for ignoring the judges orders for racially profiling latino drivers. He didnt do it. He would like to see the case go ahead. His faith is now in the hands of the u. S. Attorneys office in phoenix and lynch in washington d. C. They have to decide whether the charge the sheriff with criminal contempt. Hes not forward with his election plan. Whatever happens in the case could take months to play out. The likelihood of the sheriff is slim. The order by judge snow and appointee of republican president george w. Bush marks the first time he could be held quickly accountable for his actions. The attorneys said it sends a message to all the sheriffs start complying with court orders asap. The contempt lawsuit has cost taxpayers 60 million and counting.
