Police rearrest three more fleeing Owerri inmates

THE police in Imo State on Wednesday said it had rearrested three more fleeing inmates of Owerri Correctional Centre.
The police spokesperson in the state, Bala Elkana, told newsmen that two of the three rearrested inmates were facing murder charges, while the other was charged with kidnapping and armed robbery as of the time they fled from the Owerri correctional centre on April 5, following a jailbreak.
Some of the inmates, who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre, were rearrested recently.
Elkana said, “On May 18, 2021 and following a sustained monitoring, detectives from Oru West Division successfully rearrested one Cosmas Mbamara ‘m’ of Ohakpu area, Mgbidi, Oru West, who escaped from the Correctional Centre, Owerri on 5th April, 2021 during a jailbreak. ....

By Chinonso Alozie, Owerri The Imo State Police Command, yesterday arrested and paraded one Micheal Osundu, alleged to be among the “unknown gunmen” who attacked the Owerri Correctional centre and the Police headquarters.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwo, to newsmen in Owerri, that Osundu, claimed to be a police spy trained in Lagos.
The police said among other things that some of the exhibits recovered from the suspect included one English made Pump action rifle and twenty-six (26) live cartridges, a pair of Police uniform with the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). ....

Eight Killed As Operatives Resist Attack On Imo Police Division

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Security operatives made a breakthrough for the first time in Imo this year as they successfully resisted and repelled an attack on Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters by unknown gunmen.
The incident, which happened Thursday night, saw the joint security operatives killing about eight hoodlums in the gun duel.
The Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached but a senior police officer confirmed the development .
The police officer said that the corpses of the hoodlums and their vehicles had been brought to the state police command headquarters in Owerri.
He disclosed that the police divisional headquarters was not razed neither was any security personnel killed in the attack. ....
