The Ham&High welcomed an upbeat lunch hour of sing and dance as part of its online mental health day.
Swing Sister Swing and Young Music Makers shared the benefits of music and dance for wellbeing with the audience at Ham&High: Our Community s Mental Health on May 21.
First up were the jazz dance teachings of Cat Foley of Swing Sister Swing, a female-led outfit who teach dance, music and theatre.
With guidance, the audience danced its way through Cat’s step-by-step history of swing dance.
Cat said: “I’m going to be in my body and just let that jazz music reverberate. ....

A mental health professional explained the link between gardening and wellbeing as part of Ham&High: Our Community s Mental Health on Friday.
Rina Deans is a tutor at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust s Recovery College, which co-produce mental health and wellbeing training courses.
Rina shared her experience and the challenges she faced during the first lockdown, as well as how gardening has helped.
“It was so difficult. All my freedoms - going to work, shopping, seeing friends, going on public transport- were taken away. I was struggling to adjust, but gardening helped coping in the difficult time,” she said. ....

The number of people seeking help with the residual effects of Covid-19 is expected to grow, according to Camden s lead for long-term health conditions.
She will join Dr Phil Moore, chair of the NHS Mental Health Commissioners Network, and Highgate s Marjorie Wallace, founder of the mental health charity SANE, for a panel discussion on the challenges people face and the support that is out there.
Dr Eziefula, who is Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust s lead for long-term health conditions in Camden, said: Lots of people are still working out what the long-term symptoms are, but most people tend to have the fatigue; the brain fog, sometimes; not being able to think clearly or think as quickly as one used to before; and some people have these neurological symptoms. ....
