Marooney and Pooley Named B1G Distinguished Scholars

Defenseman James Marooney and forward Austin Pooley of the Ohio State men’s hockey team have been honored as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
Marooney, a sophomore in 2020-21, is a sport industry major. Pooley earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in Spring 2021 after finishing his senior campaign. The duo also earned Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete accolades. Pooley is a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. Luke Meidel a Big Ten Medal of Honor Finalist

Luke Meidel of the Ohio State men’s volleyball team has been named a finalist for the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The award is given each year to the top female and male senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus.
Meidel, from O’Fallon, Ill., was part of the Buckeye squad that reached the NCAA semifinals and won the MIVA Tournament in 2018. He played in more than 40 games in the Scarlet and Gray and was ranked in the Top 20 nationally in digs per set in 2020.
He received bachelor’s degrees in neuroscience and African American and African Studies this spring. He was part of OSU Peer Educators and worked as a peer mentor in the Honors College. Meidel earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors, as well as MIVA Academic All-Conference accolades. ....

Student-Athletes Set to Earn Degrees Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio Sunday, 172 current and former Ohio State student-athletes will receive their Ohio State degrees. Spring commencement ceremonies, split into two sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., will be held in Ohio Stadium and streamed online HERE.
The complete list of athletics graduates can be found HERE.
Included among the graduates are seven who went through the department of athletics’ degree completion program. More than 220 former student-athletes have now earned their degree through the program.
Highlighting the 2021 degree completion grads are:
Bradley Roby, who is in his third season with the Houston Texans and his eighth in the National Football League after being drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by Denver. Roby’s degree is in communications. ....
