good evening from new york. i m in for chris hayes. we are still waiting for the january 6th committee s report on donald trump s attempted coup. but today, ahead of the final product, the committee has released a brand-new batch of transcripts from its closed-door interviews. those transcripts providing new insight into the inner workings of the trump administration, both in the days leading up to january 6th and as trump s inner circle scrambled to respond to the committee, the committee s investigation. in fact, among the new transcripts is an interview the committee conducted with the former trump secretary of defense, this man, mark esper, who answered questions surrounding the ex president s desire to use the military to quell domestic disputes. in an interview with former deputy press secretary sarah matthews, who said she heard trump seemed to privately admit that he lost the 2020 election. quote, alyssa fara, the former communication director said to me that ....
