Disaster-hit countries offer tributes to Japan
Asia-Pacific countries that have suffered devastating disasters of their own have paid tribute to the Japanese victims of 10 years ago.
People in the western Indonesian province of Aceh, which was devastated in the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, offered prayers on the day Japan commemorates the 2011 disaster.
They said they want to remain in step with Japan toward reconstruction in both countries.
About 30 people gathered for a memorial service on a beach in the provincial capital of Banda Aceh. They included disaster management officials and those who have visited the disaster-stricken areas of northeastern Japan.
Aceh lost over 160,000 people in the 2004 tsunami. The province continues to interact with Japanese communities hit by the tsunami in 2011.

WASHINGTON President Joe Biden held his first multilateral summit on March 12 with the leaders of Japan, India, and Australia to begin a partnership for the distribution of at least a billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines in Asia to counter China’s influence in the region.
The four leaders made a joint commitment to bring together Indian manufacturing, U.S. technology, Japanese and American financing, and Australian logistics capabilities to address the severe shortage of vaccine supply across the world, particularly in Southeast Asia.
