By TOMMY REZACSt. Joseph PostKANSAS CITY - Missouri Western (21-8) exploded for 27 third quarter points on four made three-pointers, three of them from Jaelyn Haggard, and the Griffons rolled to a 69-55 win over Central Missouri Friday at the MIAA tournament quarterfinals at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.The Griffons, who have now beaten UCM three times this season alone, slogged through a tough second quarter and outscored the Jennies 15-6 in that period to go up 30-18 at halftime.Missouri Western played tenacious defense, holding UCM (19-11) to 35.1 percent shooting and forcing 20 turnovers, scoring 24 points off of those turnovers. Lincoln women fall to Jennies in finale

The Lincoln Blue Tiger women’s basketball team closed out their season with an 82-62 loss Saturday to the Central Missouri Jennies on Senior Day at Jason Gym. Following the game, Haylie Holloway and Deija Jackson were honored as the two graduating seniors for Lincoln. Lincoln coach Drea Mize will remember the two seniors for their impact on the program.

UNK women battle toward MIAA tournament

The Antelope tighegd@lopers.unk.edu The Health and Sports Center hosted a prime matchup Feb. 18 as the UNK women’s basketball team in the coaches poll went up against the Central Missouri Jennies. UNK ranked No. 12 in the coaches poll and No. 14 in the media poll heading into the game. The Jennies fended off UNK in a tightly contested game 66-70. UNK struggled in the second quarter, shooting 2-19 from the field. “They switched up and went zone, and we struggled a little bit early on,” said head coach Carrie Eighmey. “We got stagnant and that’s on me first as a coach. We did not handle that zone well in the second quarter.”
