Commute. Giant generators were brought into the caldecott tunnel, a major traffic route in the east bay. Caltrans had to figure out how to keep the tunnel lights and fans on or face a traffic nightmare. The tunnels themselves have a very large fans that circulate to make sure that the exhaust from the cars are actually taken out of the tunnels. Caltrans first thought some of the four tunnels would need to be shut down but bringing in those generators may have fixed the problem. The lantos tunnel on highway one new pacifica is open. Caltrans brought in more generators there at double slide. Thousands of commuters use that tunnel on the san mateo coast every day. That is some good news. Sal, you have your hands full but great news about the caldecott and lantos tunnel. That is good news. The tunnels will stay open. We have been in close communication with pg e on the planned safety power shutoff. We learned late last night that they do not expect to perform any shutoffs. They did indicate they plan to do a shutoff today around noon. Adverse weather is in the area from 5 00 p. M. Tonight through tomorrow morning. It is important for our community, residents and businesses, to be prepared for a shutoff from noon today for possibly seven days out. Have flashlights, batteries and other devices that need to be powered, be sure theyre powered up. Avoid driving if possible. Traffic signals will be out.
