Ivory Coast rains will improve quality of cocoa mid-crop, farmers say

3 Min Read ABIDJAN (Reuters) - Above-average rains mixed with sun last week in most of Ivory Coast’s cocoa-growing regions stood to boost the quality of the April-to-September mid-crop, farmers said on Monday. Farmers said the October-to March main crop was tailing off and that recent downpours would improve the size and quality of beans to be harvested from May to June.

Nigeria records improvement in volume of non oil exports— NEPC

By Emmanuel Acha Enugu, March 9, 2021 The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced a remarkable improvement in the volume and value of Nigeria’s non-oil trade in the international market. The Executive Director of NEPC, Mr Olusegun Awolowo, disclosed this on Tuesday, in Enugu, at a sensitisation workshop on ‘Export Facilitation Measures, Practices and Standards’. Awolowo, who was represented by the Director, Trade Information, Mrs Evelyn Obisike, described the development as a fallout of the diversification reforms of the Federal Government, aimed at promoting non-oil trade. He also said that the reforms in the sector had led to high demand for Nigerian products on the international market.

Ivory Coast rains revive hopes for a good cocoa crop

By Reuters Staff 2 Min Read ABIDJAN, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Exceptionally abundant rain over most of Ivory Coast’s cocoa regions last week revived expectations of a healthy April-to-September mid-crop after weeks of drought and heat in central regions, farmers said on Monday. Ivory Coast, the world’s top cocoa producer, is in the dry season, when little rain tends to fall from mid-November to March. But data collected by Reuters showed showers last week in the centre-western region of Daloa and central regions of Bongouanou and Yamoussoukro were nearly as heavy as downpours in the rainy season. “All the farmers are happy. The ground received a lot of water, which gives us lots of hope for the mid-crop,” said Raphael Kouadio, who farms near Daloa, where 73.6 millimetres (mm) of rain fell last week, 63.5 mm above the five-year average.
