CBN decries low participation of South-East in economic programmes

Enugu, May 4, 2021 The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has decried the low participation of the South-East in its economic intervention policies and programmes.
The acting Director, Corporate Communications Department of the bank, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, disclosed this on Tuesday during the CBN Fair in Enugu.
Nwanisobi said that the CBN intervention programmes were meant to create jobs, engender financial inclusion and make the people have access to finance.
He said Nigerians needed to leverage the intervention programmes of the apex bank for a better living at a time when inflation was spiking and prices of food items souring. ....

Automobile dealers call for legislation on auto policy, patronage

Enugu, April 23, 2021 Some automobile manufacturers in the South East have called for an enabling legislation to back the Nigerian Auto Policy and enhance patronage.
They made the call while responding to newsmen survey on state of automotive industry by journalists in Enugu.
The Executive Director, Corporate Service, Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO), Mr Uche Okeke said that such policy would make it attractive for Nigerians, including government agencies, to patronize made in Nigeria vehicles.
He said that low government patronage was one of the greatest challenges facing automobile companies in the country.
The director, therefore, called on the National Assembly to give the Nigerian Auto Policy a legal backing in order to make the industry thrive. ....

Nigeria records improvement in volume of non oil exports— NEPC

Enugu, March 9, 2021 The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced a remarkable improvement in the volume and value of Nigeria’s non-oil trade in the international market.
The Executive Director of NEPC, Mr Olusegun Awolowo, disclosed this on Tuesday, in Enugu, at a sensitisation workshop on ‘Export Facilitation Measures, Practices and Standards’.
Awolowo, who was represented by the Director, Trade Information, Mrs Evelyn Obisike, described the development as a fallout of the diversification reforms of the Federal Government, aimed at promoting non-oil trade.
He also said that the reforms in the sector had led to high demand for Nigerian products on the international market. ....

Oruku Crisis: Enugu State Govt imposes 12 hour curfew

Enugu, Feb. 25, 2021 Enugu State Government has imposed a 12-hour curfew on Oruku Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state following the crisis that claimed the lives of two community leaders.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Chidi Aroh disclosed this on Thursday in a statement in Enugu.
Aroh said that the curfew would become effective from Thursday Feb. 25 and terminate in March 31, 2021 after which the security situation in the community would be reviewed.
He said that the curfew would be from 6pm to 6am within the said period and urged the people of the area to attend to their lawful businesses outside the affected hours. ....
