Launching of “MuniWASH” Program The United States and Côte d’Ivoire Launch “MuniWASH” Program to Improve Access to Potable Water and Sanitation On December 8, 2020, Ivoirian interim Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization Vagondo Diomandé and U.S. Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire Richard Bell launched the Municipal Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene activity (MuniWASH), a U.S. government-funded regional assistance program to improve access to potable water and sanitation services to residents of Côte d’Ivoire and Benin. MuniWASH activities, funded through the United States Agency for International Development Agency (USAID), will benefit residents of eight Ivoirian cities in support of Côte d’Ivoire’s goal of reaching 100 percent water and sanitation coverage by 2030. December 11 2020 / Modified on December 16 2020 On December 8th, 2020, the Ivorian government officially launched the Municipal Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project in West Africa (MuniWASH). The Project is being implemented in 16 municipalities in Ivory Coast and Benin by the American engineering company Tetra Tech, in partnership with the African Water Association (AfWA). The initiative is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Municipal Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project in West Africa (MuniWASH) is officially launched after a long process of selecting the beneficiary municipalities. A total of 16 municipalities have been selected for the project, including eight in Ivory Coast and eight in Benin.
