Good news, cyclists! Montreal BIXI season 2024 is now officially in session with over 60% of the network opening Tuesday afternoon (around 549 stations) the earliest start the city has ever seen.
The wheels of change are spinning in Montreal, and this time, they're winter-proof. BIXI Montreal is pedalling into uncharted territory with a pilot project. For the first time, you can ride regular BIXI bikes all year long, even when Jack Frost is nipping at your nose.
BIXI is becoming a year-round service in Montreal. The popular bike-sharing program will be available 365 days a year, starting with a pilot project in 2023. The usual end of the BIXI season is mid-November.
The April 5 ice storm may have been winter's final outburst at least we can hope. Environment Canada's Montreal weather forecast for the week of April 10 shows temperatures peaking at 20 C or above on three days in a row: Thursday, April 13, Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15 just in time for the scheduled launch of the 2023 BIXI season.
Montrealers will pay a little more to use the city's popular bike-sharing service this year. BIXI Montreal prices are going up in 2023. The Montreal Executive Committee approved the hikes during its February 22 meeting. Despite the increases, seasonal BIXI pass subscribers will still benefit from a pre-season deal.
