The wheels of change are spinning in Montreal, and this time, they're winter-proof. BIXI Montreal is pedalling into uncharted territory with a pilot project. For the first time, you can ride regular BIXI bikes all year long, even when Jack Frost is nipping at your nose.
With the season's first real snowfall finally here, transportation has suddenly become more challenging. Walking is harder, driving is harder and biking is also, shockingly, a little harder.
Ahuntsic-Cartierville is rolling out a new incentive to get people to take up winter biking. Looking to up the number of gritty red faces among its residents, the Montreal borough is giving $200 worth of winter biking gear to 50 residents.Up for grabs are either studded tires or mudflaps, essential equipment for anyone who braves the city's treacherously icy streets and pools of slush. Also included are workshops and a "group outing" with other grant recipients.
