Joining the white house team from our own hallie jackson will be trey gowdy, who ran that benghazi hearing. the white house is very worried about those numbers. republicans who support the president are worried about the polling numbers. there is a huge desire to get an impeachment vote, any impeachment vote of any kind right now before the possibility of those numbers moving. the president would like to show strength. if there is a vote right now, they think they can keep republicans together. i heard pete baker talking earlier about this real push from republicans to talk about process. that s something that s unifying for them. but if you see more facts come out, if you see this process moving forward, if the public changes a little bit over time you might start to see some republican defections. so i think all of that is part and parcel of this strategy where you see a lot of the president s most vociferous defenders coming out today like you did in arguing about process. molly, ....

The border wall, it is the president s signature campaign promise. but depending on who you ask within his administration, it may not be a wall at all. in an interview with the los angeles times, the outgoing chief of staff john kelly seemed to have a different interpretation, saying, quote, to be honest, it s not a wall. we left a solid concrete wall early on in it administration when we asked people wheat they needed and where they needed it. that flying in the face of what president trump tweeted this morning. an all concrete wall was never abandoned. some areas will be all concrete but the experts at the border prefer a wall that is see-through. well, to help us sort out all of this, the writer behind that interview with general kelly, los angeles times reporter molly o toole. congratulations on the interview. the president was up early ....

Whether it s concrete or whether it s slats. it s the idea that you could actually wall off immigrants, that it might not work, it would be very expensive and sends the wrong signal. that would be their position. but i m trying to understand who the president is arguing with. i think he rejects the idea that he had abandoned an idea of his. he doesn t like the idea that the base would see him as retreating. but in fact, my understanding, not just from that john kelly interview, is that absolutely, the concept of what he wanted on the campaign trail changed when he actually talked to the officials who would be administering protection at any sort of a barrier. all right, brian, speaking of that article that was written by molly o toole from the l.a. times, i actually talked to her earlier today and he talked about trump and how in many ways, john kelly is navigating the president s words in terms of rhetoric versus relate. take a listen to what molly had to say earlier today. earl ....
