members of the jury, i have received a note that says we as a jury regret to inform the court that despite the best efforts of all members, we are unable to come to unanimous decision in the case of the state versus michael slager. is that correct, mr. foreman? yes, sir. all right. the court therefore must declare a mistrial in this case. and i so declare that this case is mistried. slager was charged with murder in the death of walter scott following a routine traffic stop in north charleston in april of last year. now this cell phone video of the incident, which shows slager shooting scott as he ran away, shocked the nation. the jury, which consisted of 11 white men and women and one black man, sent a note to the judge prior to the decision on monday saying, the majority of the jurors are still undecided. ....
