Have a repeat of 370 where they did not look at the radar immediately, where they did not look at every possible source to locate the plane. we ve learned from 370 that it is absolutely vital at this moment to grab every possible positioning clue that you can. you can t wait a minute. you can t wait an hour. they must grab all that radar now and start tracking it so it is not lost like 370. and as we look at this route, as we look at the route the flight was flying from surabaya, indonesia on its way to singapore, with what you know of the route itself is this an area that would have had military satellites that could have detected the plane? just trying to get a sense of, you know, tracking this aircraft. yes, this area as we learned from 370 does have military tracking. what was disconcerting about 370 is it appears it wasn t continuously monitored. but the information did come out that it does have military tracking and radar tracking. now, indonesia did not provide a lot of inf ....

Terrastar x radar satellites are being used. japan has satellites, china, thailand. it looks like the thai satellite image, what was shown today or acquired yesterday is of a lower resolution. not the same like the participate 5 meter digital glow imagery. it s all dependent on what is being tasked currently. but it feels like now that most of the satellite resources are being utilized. i had a conversation with digital globe earlier today. they are doing their best trying to track the debris down and provide as much information to the searching teams and the governments involved. okay. let me turn to bob bair. bob, you ve been involved in many military and intelligence operations in your time. this was an american plane that had gone down, would there be more use of say military satellites? how would the process work if this was a u.s.-led operation? ....

well, i don t think it s working any different. australia and the united states share everything. u.s. military satellites are looking at this area. we can be certain of that. the moment the images are available, they re sending them to australia. they re high resolution. the kind of images you wouldn t want to send to malaysia or anywhere else. so they are seeing a lot better pictures than we are. it s not blurry like we re seeing. it doesn t mean you can recognize debris. i mean, military satellites are not meant to it s not a search. you don t know what the pieces look like. it looks for tanks and airplanes and things like that. so this is what s taking so much time. this is not what analysts normally do. let me go back to leo romeijn, how powerful are the best satellites at working out exactly what they re looking at? ....

It does long to malaysia. however, malaysia could ask the united states or great britain or any other country to do it for them. the reason they probably won t is because egypt was not happy with the ntsb conclusions. once they handed it over, then there was a diplomatic spat, and that resulted in the ntsb not issuing full recommendations and egypt air disputed what the ntsb found. the bottom line is, it s often political and malaysia will not want to let go of this investigation, particularly since malaysia air is owned by the government. tom, we ve been talking about mostly this has been about satellite images that have been captured and them going to try to find them. here is what christopher says. all the satellite data has come from china, france, uk. why not u.s. military satellites, best resolution? is the united states possibly more involved than we know, tom? i think, don, the first ....

Of the search process. there s been close cooperation with the malaysian government. and so not just ntsb but fbi. anybody who typically deals with anything related to our aviation system is available. and so our thoughts and prayers are with the families. but i want them to be assured that we consider this a top priority and we re going to keep on working. one more thing we didn t mention, you reference it a bit, bill, satellites as well. the u.s. is using some of its satellites. it s not moving military satellites. but we are told they re using what those satellites have seen particularly on that northern corridor. as you said, because there s so much radar coverage up there in the north and so many satellites, and the fact that they haven t picked up the plane is another reason why they re looking south more than north now. jim sciutto, another day, a few more crumbs. but we appreciate it. we ll take everything we can get. thank you, sir. let s get more now on these ....
