A lot more symmetrical, a lot more organized. and of course getting up to 53,000 feet. and we saw it literally collapse shortly after this plane disappeared. we know it lost a lot of intensity, perhaps way significant downdraft associated with that too. pedram javaheri meteorologist at the cnn weather center. thank you very much. i want to bring back matthew wald, mary schiavo, tim taylor les abend. pilots are trained to navigate severe thunderstorms, correct? correct. at this particular time they would have been utilizing a very sophisticated form of radar, on board radar, looking at it would have been color radar, we would have been looking at green, yellow, red being the most intense. we do probably had cells that did go up to 50,000 feet. the thunderstorm consists of a lot of cells. especially something as big and as immense an area that that was in. but not every area not every cell would have gone up to 50,000 feet. so it would have been possible ....

Pilots requested to climb to 38,000 feet because of bad weather, what does that tell you about the conditions this plane was flying in. because of their on board radar, most likely looking at the radar that s been put out since this flight it was just a red sea of thunderstorms, thunderstorms appearing red on the radar, so by can be to deviate around and then climb, it was clear that the plane was facing some pretty desperate weather and they were trying to get out of it. that will be part of the investigation, they will look at the pilot s response to that weather and many things could have happened during that climb including a pressure stall on the engine. no distress call? does that suggest anything? no i have worked a lot of accidents and many similar to what we have so far, now ....

Have a repeat of 370 where they did not look at the radar immediately, where they did not look at every possible source to locate the plane. we ve learned from 370 that it is absolutely vital at this moment to grab every possible positioning clue that you can. you can t wait a minute. you can t wait an hour. they must grab all that radar now and start tracking it so it is not lost like 370. and as we look at this route, as we look at the route the flight was flying from surabaya, indonesia on its way to singapore, with what you know of the route itself is this an area that would have had military satellites that could have detected the plane? just trying to get a sense of, you know, tracking this aircraft. yes, this area as we learned from 370 does have military tracking. what was disconcerting about 370 is it appears it wasn t continuously monitored. but the information did come out that it does have military tracking and radar tracking. now, indonesia did not provide a lot of inf ....
