The Australian government continues to call for the immediate release of Professor Sean Turnell, the only foreigner detained following the Feb. 1 coup, as he is an economic adviser to detained State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
His family called for his release two weeks ago, saying his whereabouts are unknown. ....

Yangon – Myanmar’s coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has again told publications that they will lose their publishing licenses for referring to the military “regime” or “junta”.
The Ministry of Information said the words “regime or junta” cannot be used for the military-appointed State Administrative Council, saying it “was constitutionally formed by the military”.
The ministry sent directives to the Myanmar Press Council, a media body that settles media disputes, calling for journalists to report “ethically” and “avoid instigating public unrest”. ....

Yangon Myanmar’s police have refused to open a case for a Yangon resident who was shot dead on Saturday night by suspected police officers.
Following the military regime’s imposition of the 8pm-4am curfew, late-night arrests of civilians and civil servants participating in the civil disobedience movement are mounting. Since the release of over 23,000 prisoners on Feb. 12, in what is believed to be an attempt to create unrest, Yangon residents have formed nighttime vigilante groups. ....

Yangon Organizations representing people with disabilities and civil society organizations have slammed soldiers and police who beat a young man with mental and physical disabilities during a crackdown on protesters on Monday in Mandalay.
Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities released a statement and around 60 other organizations released a separate joint statement strongly condemning the soldiers and police.
“Other citizens are also subject to beating. But he is both physically and mentally disabled and cannot run away. It is bullying by the police to brutally beat such a person,” said U Aung Ko Myint, chairman of the federation. ....
