The victims were an 83-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from three different villages. “They clashed intensely throughout the night from 11pm yesterday until this morning. Artillery shells fell into villages and the villagers died. Houses and monasteries were hit. Three people died. Two houses were blown up and windows were shattered elsewhere,” said a Myothit villager. Artillery shells were fired by Myanmar’s military after KIA troops raided a police outpost and a military outpost on Sunday night, according to residents.

The junta issues a daily list of arrest warrants against its critics. According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, which tracks detentions, the regime had detained more than 3,000 people by April 10 and issued arrest warrants for 656 people.

Northern Command troops searched Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), Roman Catholic Association and Anglican Association churches in Mohnyin on Saturday. “It was not a random search. They were thorough, climbed over fences and went into every building in the compound. An officer came through the door but did not say a word and went straight to search my house,” said Rev. Awng Seng of Mohnyin KBC.

There were attacks on the office of Mytel, a telecoms operator owned by Myanmar’s military, and on security forces at Shwemadaw Pagoda’s southern gate on Sunday. The attacks were carried out by unidentified bike riders, according to Bago residents. “They attacked the Mytel office and sentries near the pagoda’s gate. But there was no explosion at the Mytel office,” said a Bago resident. An employee at the Mytel office told The Irrawaddy that two bike riders attacked the office with a homemade bomb but it did not ignite. The military’s mouthpiece Myawady TV, however, reported on Sunday that the Mytel office was attacked with a bomb and windows were broken.
