Mayor, MLA, MP wish Humboldt residents a good Canada Day

The mayor encouraged residents to take part in the day’s activities, which include disc golf at St. Elizabeth Park, the storyboard walk and spray park at Water Ridge Park, mini-golf at the chamber of commerce office, golf at the Humboldt Golf Club, bowling at Kemway Lanes, swimming at the Aquatic Centre, and fireworks at 10 a.m. at Centennial Park. “In recognition of the discovery of unmarked graves at the residential schools across the country, I ask each and every one of you pay a minute of silence in tribute to those lives taken too soon.” City Hall has lowered their flags and changed the canopy lights to orange, rather than red and white.

Humboldt wastewater capital project gets nearly $25 million boost

The city currently has a traditional lagoon system which is constructed to accommodate a population of up to 6000 people, and is now near capacity. As a result, the system is being designed to increase our treatment capacity to a population of 10,000. “This is confirmation of the highly anticipated funding,” said Michael Behiel, Humboldt’s mayor. “Former mayor Rob Muench and our local MLA, Donna Harpauer, initiated ongoing discussions a number of years ago on our need for government support to complete this project.” In January, the federal government gave the city conditional approval to hire a consultant for the project, after the city applied for funding under the program. Catterall and Wright Consulting Engineers was chosen for the $897,000 contract.
