Residents' views wanted for possible new cannabis shop at Adelphi

Merritt City Council has approved public consultation for a new cannabis shop.
Unity Cannabis, the first cannabis shop owned by an Indigenous reserve in Canada and based out of Williams Lake, is looking to set up shop at the Adelphi Hotel.
The motion to request written submissions from the public about the project was discussed at the May 25 regular City Council meeting, and passed 6-1, with only Councillor Melvina White opposed. Public notices are to be posted at the Adelphi property, issued to any resident within 100 feet of the property, and published in two editions of the Merritt Herald. ....

TNRD recommends approval for TMX camp liquor licence


 
An application for a liquor primary licence at 3802 Ranchland Rd., east of Merritt, was brought before the TNRD Board of Directors on May 13, 2021.
The licence, if granted, would enable workers staying at this location in a Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) camp to access alcoholic beverages without traveling into Merritt.
Several factors were addressed in considering the application, including the potential for additional noise, concerns from external protective services agencies, and impact on the community. The consequences of the licence on these factors were considered to be negligible.
Following two consecutive newspaper advertisements in the Merritt Herald and a 300-metre radius mail-out to owners and occupiers in the area, a Public Hearing was held on May 13 before the meeting commenced. ....

Rockin’ River has announced that the popular country music festival, which is held in Merritt each year, has officially been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related health restrictions, which place limits on large gatherings. 
This is the second year that the festival has had to be postponed, but organizers feel confident that the event will be back bigger and better than ever by 2022.  ....
