Lake County DOH restarts COVID-19 vaccine program

CLERMONT Less than 24 hours after receiving more than 12,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, the Lake County branch of the Florida Department of Health vaccinated as many as 1,000 seniors Wednesday at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center.
However, while many were pleased the DOH had restarted its vaccination program, which began only last week, the department was also criticized for how the resumption was communicated.
Oh no.
Far from it.
Despite what the scoreboard at Bobby Bowden Field-Doak Campbell Stadium read, the Hawks walked off that football field as winners.
Champions in their own right.
One only needed to look deeper than the final score to see the Hawks’ ultimate victory.
Yes, Lake Minneola toted home the a runner-up trophy and second-place medals. But, the team’s season-long trek to Tallahassee was a weekly outlet for those in the community struggling with … well … struggling with 2020.
But, for three hours every Friday night, Minneola had a reason to cheer.
The Hawks Nest became THE place to be in south Lake County, thanks to the football team.
