A new mayor and two new City Council members began their terms of office Monday in Wood River. City Clerk Stacy Ehrman administered the oath of office to new Mayor Tom Stalcup and incoming council members Scott Tweedy and Jeremy Plank. Stalcup has served on the council for six years, first appointed after the late mayor Fred Ufert passed away in March 2015.
He handily defeated former Mayor Cheryl Maguire in April’s election. Plank and Tweedy are serving in public office for the first time. Mayor Stalcup tells the Big Z it’s time to get down to business and he looks forward to working for the citizens:

Wood River budget hearing set March 15

WOOD RIVER City council members will hold a public hearing via teleconference at 7 p.m. March 15 on the city’s proposed budget before the regularly scheduled council meeting.
At Monday’s meeting Mayor Cheryl Maguire, on behalf of the council and Wood River citizens in general, thanked firefighter Kris Ayres for his service following his return from overseas deployment. She also thanked StorCo Storage Solutions Wood River for lending their business facility and workers to help coordinate a local food drive in which 1,000 boxes of fresh food was distributed.

The mayor of Wood River has apologized for an incident late last week involving her husband. Bob Maguire was accused of confronting a business owner over a political sign supporting his wife Cheryl s opponent in next month s election. Word of the confrontation quickly spread over social media with video from the business.
Mayor Maguire addressed the situation at last (Monday) night s city council meeting.

The business owner contacted Wood River Police to make a report and turn over a copy of the video but has so far refused to press charges in the case. Mayor Cheryl Maguire is being challenged by Councilman Tom Stalcup in the upcoming election on April 6.
