A lot of this kind of conversation. if you are not going to do something that will impact safety and make it better and easier and even more economical for the airlines, than let s not do it at all. it s unnecessary. we don t need to have it. i can hear it now, flaps, hydraulics, makeup. that s on the checklist now. mary, schavio, what about the argument that jim and les are making now. they say it is a ridiculous idea. what do you think? it s a ridiculous idea not to have them. the privacy issue is a red herring. the federal aviation administration regulations did away with that a long time ago when they said you have to have two people in the cockpit on every commercial passenger flight. why because pilots engage in constant crew resource management. they must challenge each other all the time. if they are constantly doing themselves all the time they have no time for privacy activities, half of which require you to be naked. we know that isn t happening. there is no privacy in t ....

They are entitled to answers. things as simple as the air traffic control transcript, the tapes, some maintenance records on the plane, the general rule being if there was information that was disposable before the crash it is fair game after the crash. it is really a whole host of things these people are entitled to. mary, i want you to clear this up for you. we know there were few americans on board flight 370 but could malaysian airlines be sued in an american court since they operate in the u.s.? actually yes. there are several parameters you have to satisfy. if you are an american and purchase ed a ticket in the united states, traveling from the united states. there are many ways the airline can be brought here, but that is jurisdictional threshold. you have to meet one of those thresholds in order to be here. if you do you get to stay here. usually they look for residency, where you are traveling to, what ....

Also there s serious discussion about the orion, towed side scan sonar device which does everything in realtime. gives greater flexibility and can go to a much greatest depth, too. one of the issues is the area they are searching at the moment is like a plateau, 4.5 thousand meters deep and then it drops to 6,000 miles deep. they need to get more or better assets if the search is to be widened considerably. let s talk about the big picture or the long haul so to speak, mary. we know malaysian and australian authorities are mapping out a long term search focusing on the debris is handled, widening search. does it sound to you they are preparing to settle in for the long haul here? yeah, i think it does. it shows it s wise they are getting a plan, they are getting an agreement in place. ....

Answers. i know mary s had much more experience of this sort of anger of families when they turn up expecting answers than the authorities will deserve all the wrath that befalls upon their head. on the question of the search areas and all of the things that we talked about just now, what happens next, of course, is they have the ocean shield. they have everything there in a hurry because of the 30-day deadline. they have done the searches that they needed to do within those parameters. but now if nothing is found, they do have that little bit more luxury of time to do the sort of experiments that mary is talking about, to try to rethink things differently. there isn t a 30-day pinger limit about to expire. they haven t found in the smallest tightest area. i think that is what we are talking about when we talk about a reappraisal of what happens next. i want the thank everybody on our panel. ....

The search leaders told us off the record they were confident they were in the right spot given the acoustic signals they picked up. they are not going to give up. already discussions on what is next. we mentioned the area of interest 300 miles by 30. bigger than the current one. that could be next, though nothing has been decided at the moment. discussions between the australians and malaysians at the moment on issues like who would handle any debris if it is found, the delicate issue of human remains and how best to deploy resources, whether to bring in, for example, more resources if the search area widens, anderson. appreciate the update. joining me is richard quest, david gallo, also mary schavio, an attorney and now represents families and victims and david ....
