i m kate bolduan. we want to welcome viewers in the united states and around the world. we re following the devastating impact of hurricane ian right now and some of the first pictures of the devastation and destruction left behind, here s a look in fort myers of the destruction there. new aerials just in here of the catastrophic damage across southwest florida, which took a direct hit from this storm. the storm surge and relentless rain really causing widespread damage that officials are already acknowledging will take a very long time to recover from. and it seems obvious when you see this kind of damage, bridges, roadways wiped out. the bridges, the only vehicle access to sanibel island and pine island are now impassable says the governor. entire sections of these bridges have been washed away essentially cutting off those barrier islands. in port charlotte, the monster winds blew the roof off the intensive care unit at a hospital and also flooded the er, just really ....

welcome to the programme. amid the turmoil in uk markets this week, the chancellor met the us banks today and was told in no uncertain terms that his budget which he has planned for november is way too far away . the government needs to communicate much sooner, said the banks, on what the solution will be to the problem the city believes they created. it has been another chaotic day on the markets. this morning, the bank of england performed a screeching u turn, putting the brakes on its plan to sell government bonds and instead launching a new scheme to buy them. think of it as a form of digital money printing. the bank is creating funds to to buy bonds which the government issues to borrow money. and this is why. since the mini budget, the cost of government borrowing long term has shot up. it was spiralling above 5%. that s a 20 year high. we have seen rises in the last two days that would normally take years. the bank of england is buying up the debt, in essence cr ....
155 miles an hour. that is just shy of a category 5 hurricane. the eye of this storm expected to make landfall just hours from now, bringing with it catastrophic flooding and also life-threatening storm surge. the florida keys getting hit hard overnight with tropical storm-force winds causing flooding, major flooding and power outages. the power of this is just enormous. the hurricane has also sparked tornado activity, one reported overnight in broward county, ripping trees from the ground. it has also caused heavy damage to planes at the north perry airport in pembroke pines, flipping aircraft like toys. for the north more than 2.5 million people are facing some form of evacuation order this morning but florida governor ron desantis says that now residents in the cross hairs of the approaching storm need to shelter in place immediately, that in effect it s too late to evacuate. if you are in any of those counties, it s no longer possible to safely evacuate. it s ti ....
