The Routt softball team banged out 11 hits, and got hits when it needed them most, in a 13-8 win over West Central in the Rockets’ season opener Monday in Jacksonville.
“Kind of what I expected,” Routt coach Jamie Martin said. “I knew we were going to give up some runs. I mean, pitching our pitchers did a nice job throwing strikes, but we’re not going to shut anybody out on that end of it. We’ve got to let our defense work, and they did a nice job most of the innings and luckily, our bats came to hit, and we had a nice finish to the game.”

The thing that the Routt volleyball team has been dreading for the past two weeks maybe longer finally happened Wednesday night.
The 2021 season came to an end.
What was Routt senior Makenna Baptist thinking after her team’s win over Pleasant Hill?
“That I don’t get to come back,” she said.
“I’ve been here for four years playing, and I got to be on varsity for those four. It’s been an honor the whole time. And I’m glad I got to do what I did and get the assists that I’ve gotten over the years. I’ve had a bunch of good hitters, and I got to leave with them today, most of them.”
