Swim & Dive Hands Out Season Awards

Tallahassee, Fla.  – The Florida State swimming and diving teams celebrated the 2021-22 season by handing out annual awards on Saturday. Student-athletes selected the winners in five categories:   Rookie of the Year: Edith Jernstedt/Arijus Pavlidi Diver of the Year: Vivian Johnson/David Vargas Hardest Worker: Emily Trieschmann/Brennan Hammond Most Improved: Sydney Boals/Auben Nugent Most Valuable: Nina Kucheran/Mason Herbet Jernstedt qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 fly and swam personal bests in the 200 IM (1:59.03) and 100 fly (52.35) at the meet. She also helped the Noles set the school record in the 400 medley relay after placing seventh in the 200 fly (1:55.80) at the ACC Championships. Pavlidi swam the second-fastest 200 back in school history at 1:41.23, challenging the school record that was set back in 2009 (1:41.11). He placed eighth at the ACC Championships (1:41.30). Johnson qualified for the NCAA Zone B Championships in all three events and finished nint ....

MIAMI, Fla.  –  The Florida State swimming and diving teams are leading the TYR Classic in both the men’s and women’s meets. Competition will resume on Saturday at the Key Biscayne Bay Campus Aquatics Center

The men have 258.5 points ahead of TCU (158), Pitt (156) amongst others and the women (217) hold a slight edge over FIU (213).

“We had a pretty good first day,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “The men won every event and the women swam well too. It’s nice to have the lead on both sides heading into the second day.”

The men won all eight swimming events on the day.

FSU dominated the 400 medley relay to open the meet with a time of 3:13.66 behind Mason Herbet, Izaak Bastian, Max McCusker and Peter Varjasi.

Varjasi followed that swim with wins in the 200 free (1:38.25) and 50 free (20.41).

Nick Mason held on to win the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.41, and McCusker added a victory in the 100 fly (4 ....

Quaglieri Paces Noles with New 100 Back Record


GREENSBORO, N.C.  – Florida State sophomore Tania Quaglieri became the fastest Seminole in history in the 100 back, clocking a time of 52.17 at the 2021 Women’s ACC Championships and the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Friday.
Quaglieri advanced to the championship heat of the 100 back in eighth place after swimming a personal best of 52.97 in prelims.
Working from lane eight at night, Quaglieri used her speed in the front half of the race to set the tone.
The Nonatola, Italy, native, touched in sixth place (52.17), dropping almost two seconds from her seed time (53.90) in order to set the school record.  She took down McKayla Lightbourn’s mark of 52.39 that was set back in 2014. ....
