Temperatures are expected to exceed 37C in parts of the UK, with the Met Office warning of a very serious situation as it issued its first red warning for extreme heat.
The ominous warnings have not stopped Deputy PM Dominic Raab from saying Britons should be resilient and enjoy the sunshine as MPs doubled down on advising schools not to close.
The country is set to grind to a halt over the next two days with sweltering temperatures that pose a risk to life on Monday and Tuesday, with both days likely to break temperature records.
