Is this a debate in which both sides are driven by fear . Judith butler, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you. Im glad to be here. Well, its a pleasure to have you here. You have a long academic career. Youve written some very well known books on gender theory. I just wonder, in your view, whether this debate about gender has fundamentally changed . Has the climate around it really changed . Yes, i think it has. I think at the beginning of gender studies, a very important field within feminism, In The Beginning of queer theory, we talked about gender in different ways. We talked about the Gender Division Of Labour or gender differentials when were discussing literacy or education how many men or women are getting certain benefits. Class and that is something of a rarity in the performing arts. Why . Eddie marsan, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you. Nice to be here. You do seem to be that rare breed as an actor, a guy who is constantly, permanently busy. How do you manage it . I just. I think when i first started in drama school, i was always the guy who played the old man in the chekhov piece. If there was a young, attractive young man played the guy who shot himself at the end, i was always the old guy with gout. They used to call me captain velcro in drama school because i played all the small parts. So, i realised very early on that nobody would want me to be me because, in reality, i dont think men want to be me and women want to sleep with me so, i always had to be someone else. Oh, my goodness. Youve started with such a sort of powerful and profound sort of statement of who you are and the Acting Profession. Is that something that youve found. Youve had to come to terms with, or was it always an easy thing to

hello there. it has been a pretty unsettled weekend, some areas have been very wet indeed. but there were some quieter, brighter moments as well. now, for this upcoming week, it looks like we re starting off on a very unsettled note again with low pressure always nearby. mid week onwards, things look like they ll settle down with high pressure building in. it should turn drier, little bit brighter, and we will all notice it will turn very mild indeed. low pressure still with us to start the new week. just to the west of ireland there, lots of isobars on the chart so it is going to be another windy windier on monday than what we had over the weekend. particularly across more southern and western coastal areas, touching gale force at times. bands of showers, long spells of rain pushing from south to north across the country.
