Two growing sectors could have been the key to the Northern Rivers staying afloat during the height of coronavirus, according to new data.
The Xero Boss Insights 2021 report from demographer Bernard Salt has revealed investment in health and real estate markets have helped bolster the region during the pandemic.
Nationwide, Lismore had the highest Health Care and Social Assistance business count over the past year, at 11 per cent.
It was closely followed by Port Macquarie and Hervey Bay.
The Australian average was 8 per cent.
The report hinted this was good news, given health and medical job growth was only growing.

Subscriber only A change has come to one of Lismore s favourite burger joints, with the Dirty Wilson now known as Dirtys. But an inquiry made by the business to Lismore City Council has sparked discussion about on-street dining in the town that could see bigger changes in the CBD. Dirtys owner Emily Bonotto said while they don t currently have plans to expand seating onto the road, they did make a preliminary inquiry to the council on the procedure and cost of extending existing footpath dining into the adjacent carpark space. We were just putting feelers out, to ask about the process, Ms Bonotto said.

Subscriber only Opinions are divided over an independent school s plans to expand into the Brown & Jolly building in Woodlark St in the Lismore CBD. Â The Living School bought the landmark building for an undisclosed price and has revealed it plans to offer more enrolments up to Year 13 in the near future. Having a K-13 coeducational offering at the heart of Lismore is a focus on reconnecting and engaging learners with a town, the school s conductor, John Stewart, said. If the purpose of school is to improve community, schools must be in a community: we want to grow a community of shared futures.
